La especialidad es m\u00e9dico-quir\u00fargica, y los m\u00e9dicos que la practican se llaman traumat\u00f3logos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Su \u00e1mbito se extiende m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del campo de traumatismo mayores; abarca el estudio de las enfermedades cong\u00e9nitas o adquiridas que afectan al aparato locomotor, especialmente de aquellas que precisan tratamiento con cirug\u00eda ortop\u00e9dica, pr\u00f3tesis u \u00f3rtesis. Sin embargo, no todas las enfermedades del aparato locomotor entran dentro del campo de la traumatolog\u00eda, pues gran parte de los problemas de salud que afectan a las articulaciones se incluyen en el \u00e1mbito de la reumatolog\u00eda o la fisiatr\u00eda que son otras especialidades m\u00e9dicas diferentes.
